Recently, JB Knowledge’s 4th Annual Construction Technology Report revealed that over 40% of polled construction companies have no dedicated IT department, with budget being the largest limiting factor. Instead, a lot of companies are relying on younger, more tech savvy employees for support. While this may prove a successful solution in the short term, the fact is these individuals are often incapable of managing hardware and infrastructure, let alone implementing a technology strategy. A hybrid approach to IT is often ideal for companies with budget constraints: hire critical staff in-house, but utilize consultants to strategize and lead. Don’t let budgetary constraints, lack of support and lack of knowledge stop you from using technology to leverage a competitive advantage.
