- Make IT a strategic component of your business and not an afterthought
- Ensure you have proper and valid product licensing
- Ensure that you have daily data backups (ideally internal and cloud). Test backups routinely by doing restores
- Ensure that you have up-to-date Anti-Virus/ Anti-Spam and Malware
- If practicing BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) ensure you control access to your office resources/ data
- Don’t store critical data on a standalone PC
- Have an IT and Social Media policy, have all employees sign it and enforce it
- Protect your intellectual property and emails from theft or lost smart phones and laptops
- Document your IT setup; don’t let your IT partner/ department tell you that they can’t give you the administrative passwords…It’s your business
- Conduct routine planning meetings, audit your IT, and adjust where needed
